Christmas cards are one of the highlights of the season! Especially since I live 15 hours away from all of my childhood friends and family. I love nothing more than getting Christmas cards in the mail and displaying them for well into January. But then I hate to throw them away. Not only do they cost a small fortune, but they are the best pictures from all my favorite people. So I’ve found a way to display my Christmas cards and also save them for coffee table decor year after year.
Displaying Christmas Cards on Your Garland
I started doing this about 2 years ago in our old house when we had limited space to display Christmas cards. I used to hang them over the pantry door but we have so many amazing friends and family and we get so many cards that I started to run out of space. So the kids were the perfect height for the hand rail on our stairs so I started displaying them there. And they loved walking by, flipping the cards over, and enjoying them.
Just punch a hole in the corner of each Christmas card. I prefer the top left corner of all cards. This keeps consistency and allows them to go onto your ring in the correct orientation (keep reading 😉).
Using twine, tie the cards onto the garland at varying heights. If your garland is artificial and has wire in the branches, you can adjust the cards so they are staggered and you can see them all.
Then step back and admire! Like I said, my kiddos enjoy this the most!
Then sometime in January, when I finally take my cards down, I cut the twine and slide them onto a notecard ring. I keep these rings of cards for years and years. I store them with my Christmas decorations and pull them out every year. My kids love looking at them.
