Y’all know I’m all about a versatile wardrobe! And that even means my maternity closet. It really is so hard to justify spending a lot of money on clothes you wear for 6 months…if that!
So in today’s post I’m sharing my favorite styling tips for your maternity dresses. Combining pieces from your existing wardrobe, one dress can go a long way!
During both pregnancies I’ve been a fan of bodycon dresses. And trust me….I don’t LOOOOVE my pregnant body. But I truly feel like they are more flattering than lose, flowy dresses….the ones Tom calls a “mumu” ha ha ha! But I do have one secret to bodycon maternity dresses…pregnancy spanx!! YEEEESSS girl!!! You heard me!!! Spanx for that bump!!! And trust me — you won’t want to wear regular panties ever again! I’d honestly rather wear a dress JUST so I can wear my spanx! Not only do they hold you in, but they keep your legs from rubbing together (and yes that is a thing), they give you a little extra belly support, and they soak up all the summer sweat (yep thats another thing ha ha).
Ok so on to the styling tips 😉 I snagged this dress at Target for $23! And by adding pieces I already had in my closet, I was able to come up with 3 different looks. Enjoy!

1. Tie your favorite basic tee above your bump: This wasn’t a trend the first go round for me but I’ve seen it a LOT lately and I think its adorable. And oh so simple. Just grab your favorite basic tee (mine is a SUPER affordable little cotton V neck number from Madewell here), layer it over your dress, and tie that sucker in a knot just above your bump.

2. Layer your favorite button up over the dress: This dress, being striped, kind of limited my button up options. Since most of my button up shirts are plaid, I didn’t think that was a good “pattern mix” ha ha. But if your dress is a solid (like this one here) you have a lot more options for layering. Here I just layered one of my favorite, oversized chambray shirts. You can leave it open or tie it in a little knot. If the shirt is more fitted I would say to leave it open. Mine was a little too oversized, so I tied it up.

3. Toss on a jacket or cardigan: I’m a SUCKER for layers! If you’ve been following along for any amount of time, you totally know this! Cardigans are my BFF. Not only are they comfy and practical, but they are the EASIEST way to change up an outfit. Here I tossed on a denim jacket, but a camo jacket (like this one) would be another awesome option! Or any of these cardigans.
Happy Wednesday Friends!
