a full review of 6 different black maternity leggings
Black maternity leggings are a closet staple for all pregnant women! And coming from someone who’s done this now 3 times…that’s kind of the gospel. But the problem is that there’s SO MANY different types, styles, and brands of leggings how in the world do you choose?
Look no further! I’ve got you covered girlfriend!
I tried on and reviewed 6 pairs of black maternity leggings. One pair I didn’t care for (keep reading to find out which ones) so I’m considering this the top 5 black maternity leggings you MUST HAVE!
Now don’t freak out and think you have to buy them all. Depending on what you’re looking for, working out, dressing up, work wear, or just everyday casual, I’ve got you covered.
for size reference: I’m 5’3” and usually wear a size 26 pant or a small

Zella Live In Pocket 7/8 Maternity Leggings
The fabric is incredible! It’s not a knit fabric, its more of a workout fabric. It is moisture wicking but it doesn’t have the “strictly working out” feel to it. Aka: I wear this ALL THE TIME! Running errands. Going to things at my kids school. These are my GO TO weekend leggings. You can workout in them, but I don’t know that I would. The other selling feature is the side pocket. I find myself using this CONSTANTLY for my cellphone. Especially when I’m out and about with the kids. These also come in a crop but the 7/8 length hits me in a perfect spot. (I’m wearing a small)
BLANQI Everyday Maternity Belly Support Leggings
These are my second favorite leggings! There’s nothing about them that’s uncomfortable! For everyday wear but with less of an athletic look, these are your leggings. These are perfect for sneakers and sweater or even putting under a long tunic with boots. The fabric, although nylon and spandex, has a knit-like texture to them (similar to the Spanx Seamless Leggings). The waistband is more similar to a compression undergarment (like Spanx) and has extra fabric that stretches just for your bump. The length is perfect and hits my ankle at just the right spot. But if you’re taller I think you could get more stretch from the thigh.
Girlfriend Collective High Waist Full Length Maternity Leggings
These are your workout leggings! The fabric is clearly made for working out being mostly nylon. These are moisture wicking and insanely comfortable. They are a little long and are cuffed under in this photo. They do not come in a petite or crop but are available in gorgeous jewel tone colors. I also really liked that the belly band has seams that extend up from the pant – it gives a much more snug fit. (I’m wearing a small)
Ingrid & Isabel Faux Leather Maternity Leggings
Full disclosure – I’ve never tried to Spanx faux leather maternity leggings and they weren’t available online to order from Nordstrom. But, after trying these…I don’t need the Spanx. These are AMAZING! If you’re on the fence about the sheen of faux leather leggings drawing attention to your pregnant legs…GIRL DON’T BE! These are so flattering and have the most subtle sheen to them. I personally think they’re less shiny than the Spanx non-maternity faux leather leggings. And man are these comfortable! I plan to order these in the regular fabric as well. The best part is the belly band. It dips into a deep V in the back which I really appreciate – and yes it still stays in place in the front. They are a smidge long and are cuffed in this photo but I would probably uncuff them for certain boots. (I’m wearing a small)
SPANX Mama Ankle Jean-ish Seamless Maternity Leggings
If you’re not a fan of leggings when you’re pregnant, you need something more structured (maybe for work), or you just want pockets on your pregnant booty…these are for you! They are the true definition of a “jegging.” The fabric feels like denim, has actual functioning pockets in the back, but has the stretch of a legging. My least favorite feature of these is the belly band. There is a ton of extra fabric all around and comes up extremely high in the back (like so high I had to tuck it into my bra). These aren’t as tight in the legs (you can see the gathering around my knees) and fit more like a ponte pant from the knee down.
SPANX Mama Look at Me Now Seamless Maternity Leggings
These are my least favorite of the 6 I tried. Which makes me really sad. I own these exact (Spanx seamless leggings) in non-maternity and love them. But these are so uncomfortable. First off, they are much too long. In the picture here they are cuffed at the bottom. Second, they are extremely uncomfortable through the thigh. It feels as though the fabric has a band around the highest part of your thigh that is NOT forgiving and I’m fearful it will cause the leggings to slide down my leg as I walk. Third, I don’t enjoy how high the belly band is in the back. I personally think these are for tall, thin pregnant women! (I’m wearing a small)
